Carla Herrera 2019 season

My 2019 kite season

When my 2019 started I had a very clear goal in my mind, become Kitesurf World Champion!
I had a tough start on the first event qualifying just on seventh place at Cape Verde event. Conditions were amazing to watch but for a backside rider like me on this wave everything was very complicated due to the waves power and wind direction... Really struggled on that conditions but learnt a lot!

The second stop of the year was couple of months later in Sylt, Germany. We had a mix wave / freestyle event where i did my best and managed a win at the main event and also took a first place in the Best Trick comp! We had great conditions for Strapless, strong wind and good kickers to jump! I felt very comfortable in the water and all the training i had paid off.

Next event took place just three days later in Tarifa, my home spot. We had a 100% freestyle event and also won that event in which we had very bad luck with wind conditions and we had to compete with REALLY light winds! Was super hard conditions but when you compete at home with your people cheearing, you cant lose!

Couple of months later was time to go to Mauritius, an event that would be with left waves and 100% waves. I finished this time with a third place! I was super stocked and happy as waves are not my favourite discipline and i dont get conditions like that in Tarifa to train for. We had very good conditions, clean and strong waves with a proper wind! Normally I don't have much fun surfing in waves but there it is different ... it really is a worthwhile place to visit.

The penultimate event of the year was in Dakhla. Was again a wave event and i lost my first heat in the single elimination! On the doubles i managed to overcome until I reached the final for the event! From the last place straight to the finals! I was so happy and impressed about my performance. And also because i assured my 2019 World Tittle! On the finals, conditions were very complicated, with very light wind and shore break waves but we gave everything we had on the water and finally got a great second place.

The last stop of the year took place in Prea, Brazil, with a 100% freestyle score.. Without a doubt my favorite event of the whole year! Couldnt train as much as i wanted due to my work but i went there very relaxed and ready to give my best! I lost on the third round and had to wait for the doubles if i wanted to be on that final.. So i went full on for it on the doubles and manage to go inside another final! I battle again against Mika who had been stomping during the whole event. After a very interesting heat I took a second position, which for me was a great way to end my season.
Prea was a reality shock about how much girls are progressing in strapless freestyle but also an extra motivation to train even harder the up coming season!

Thanks to the support of my sponsors: Limit Waves, Kite Fun Tarifa, Brunotti and especially Ocean Rodeo and my boy who has been coaching and a great emotional support.
I did it! Im 2019 Kitesurf World Champion!
